Description
Wipeout Pure is the sixth game in the Wipeout series, but the first one to be released on a portable gaming device. After the mediocre Wipeout Fusion on the PS2, SCEE Studio Liverpool wanted to take Wipeout back to its roots - back to the simpler, more focused gameplay of Wipeout 2097. Wipeout Pure is generally regarded as having brought the Wipeout franchise back to top form. Along with a welcome return of classic Wipeout gameplay, Wipeout Pure has pioneered a number of technical achievements on the PSP, namely, downloadable content, integrated web browser and PSP Game Share technology.
Wipeout Pure has been awarded a number of awards:
IGN Best of 2005 - PSP, Best Dowloadable Content.
IGN Best of 2005 - PSP, Best Racing/Driving Game.
'Develop Best Handheld Developer Award, 2005' - SCEE Studio Liverpool.

Trivia
- A cut down playable version of Wipeout Pure is on the Stealth movie UMD. This custom version features a Stealth ship which is not present on the full game.
- The Wipeout Pure download browser caused quite a stir when people realised that you could redirect it to browse normal internet pages. The PSP didn't get a proper web browser until V 2.0 of the ROM software was released, some months later.
- Wipeout Pure was the first PSP game to offer free downloadable content.
