2005

  • Halo's having a go at importing Onion's data. Apparently it's just over 1700 games. That should help us overtake the other gaming wikis! Xevious 03:03, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
  • Onion's stuff's not in there yet - it's currently online at Retropia, I think - and Halo's talking to him about how best to format it to feed it in. And I know about other useful sources! Xevious 14:38, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
  • Added you back! Will probably be online at some point over the weekend ... Xevious 12:42, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
  • Added you to MKDS Friend Roster --MTC 12:41, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
  • Is it worth having a List of ... page for those platforms with large quantities of games (similar to List of Sony Playstation 2 Games)? Also: is it worthwhile defaulting the template to use a List of ... link in the Games section? --Barthax 22:32, 15 January 2006 (UTC) -- Xevious pointed out that the structure is in place to auto-created the categories *as the game pages themselves are populated*. --Barthax 15:23, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

The Great GamerWiki Giveaway

  • I have some Pokemon-related tat here. How about over the Christmas holidays, we run a competition where we judge the best new article to appear on GamerWiki? Publicise it on rllmuk, in ugv*, and lots of other places. Get people contributing a new game. We'll decide on 9th January which was the best new page, and I'll send them the tat (which includes a t-shirt, a blow-up pokemon, and a few other bits). Xevious 12:03, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Spammy stuff

  • I do keep an eye out, indeed. One thing I've found handy is to have an RSS feed of the recent changes page in Thunderbird, so I can easily see whenever a page is changed without even having to go to the site. Xevious 20:54, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
  • As you can see, i've set it all up and have publicised it in a few places. Hope it takes off ... Xevious 12:25, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
  • Seems like it didn't... How about extending the date & putting the word around again? --Barthax 22:31, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Travelling

  • Where in the UK are you? You'll have a nice lot of box covers to catch up on! Xevious 17:35, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

Games to be Added

  • Well, it's certainly given me a sense of purpose ... I've found a better (more accurate) source now for release dates, so have rejigged the 21/Oct ones and added the 28/Oct ones. The only disadvantage is that some of the games I'm adding I've not heard of and so can't add a lot about them ... maybe we need to keep the "current week" list up until the next week and ask people to add stuff about any games they buy? Xevious 12:14, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

  • I'm going away for a few weeks - so you'll have to get some others to take us over the 300 game mark! I'll continue when I get back! Xevious 09:58, 15 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Another World

Blimey, that was tricky. There are a lot of games called Another World and Out of this World. Have a look at these two disambig pages - I think they work OK, but any suggestions? Xevious 16:02, 1 Sep 2005 (UTC)

  • Welcome back! Have a look at Super Monkey Ball. This is how I image the series pages to work. Also see how Super Monkey Ball Deluxe points to a disambig page. I'm currently working on the PGR series ... Xevious 11:19, 26 Aug 2005 (UTC)
  • I agree about the legibility. The wording's not great, is it! Maybe we should just have a sentence saying that GAMEX was first released on the PLATFORMX, and then include that game in the list? Xevious 11:55, 30 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Merger?

  • Hmmm. While (as an economist) I can completely understand the benefits of merging and combining data and so on, I can also see the benefits of there being more than one Wiki for quite some time - it helps the market to establish what is needed and so on. If someone writes a lot for a game on one Wiki and not the other, it's not lost to the world. And , I don't know, I just prefer the way that this has built up and I'd be reluctant to see it lose some of its identity. But they do have more games. Still, I'm attempting to add two games a day myself, and trying to convince more people to take part constantly. I say leave it as it is right now, and revisit the idea in a year or so. Xevious 10:49, 10 Aug 2005 (UTC)
  • I agree with Xevious. I have no issues with the two sites co-operating and semi-acknowledging each other's presense, but I don't think a merger needs to happen. Whatsmore, they seem to have a few issues with their admins etc even if they do have more content. I don't see any issues in the two sites co-existing, might provide some healthy competition. Lots of categories

Following your pub, you've now got three categories which are basically the same:

  • GamerWiki Policy
  • GamerWiki policies and guidelines
  • GamerWiki policy

Can you decide which one you want?  :) Xevious 16:33, 15 Aug 2005 (UTC)

  • Since you have founded Gamerwiki, I was curious, what is the expected lifespan of this wiki? I am curious because I plan on uploading a lot of information and I hope it remains useful to a permanent page. Thank you and reach me at my talk page - EditingMachine

  • Since we've sorted out the formats and so on, next up are the genres. I've made a few changes based on recent discussion, so would appreciate you having a look over them (and I've messaged Halo too) and leave any comments. I'll finalise the list by the end of the week and put it onto the main genre page. Xevious 16:28, 25 Jul 2005 (UTC)
    • Actioned -- tyagi 04:29, 2 Aug 2005 (UTC)
  • Hi mate, I'm trying to get the `Head Over Heels` link in the Spectrum listing to point to `Head Over Heels (Spectrum)`, but am having no luck. I used the same style of coding that someone else had used to point to `Robocop (Spectrum)`, (which does work), but am having no luck. The other thing I'm having problems with is the MATH tag. I'm using this to display the pinouts over on the JAMMA page, but the tags don't seem to close properly. Any chance you could have a look, please? Thanks! roberthazelby 10:13, 6th Aug (BST)
  • Picky, but could you please change <font size=1> in the donation thing to <font size="1">? Also, change <br> to <br />. Would fix two more errors on the W3C validator - make it down to 15 on an average page, most of which can't easily be fixed - Halo 14:00, 4 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Competition

I think it's pretty unanimous - Barthax, yes? Though I've got a few repeated bits so I'll send something to Toby too. Once I've got your agreement I'll get their addresses ... Xevious 12:08, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
