Adsense / Amazon
- Noticed this little extension which might allow a few more AdSense clicks to be embedded (in templates for example) - especially the advert embedded in the About section (imagine another small cell at the bottom of the GameInfobox for example). :) --Barthax 10:19, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Amazon ASIN links should be no trouble at all - it's just a URL with a changing ASIN identifier(s) similar to the way Cyberscore are using them - that could become as simple as an extension to the GameInfobox which gets hidden if the relevant ASIN(s) are not given (in much the same way the picture currently works). I'm not familiar with the Amazon Web Services stuff & they're looking failry complex - are you familiar enough with them to know what you're seeking to implement? --Barthax 13:59, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Sounds like you are definitely after the Associate program. Check out http://www.ehow.com/how_2246_become-amazon-associate.html for an overview of the process and then http://www.kottke.org/03/02/amazon-associates-beware for a little "beware". Basically, the links would take the form Cyberscore uses: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005LW5U/ref=nosim/cyberscore-21 links to Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec with CyberScore as the referrer (yes, that link is a direct copy - just for illustration purposes as I get no money from it). The only difference between all items at amazon.co.uk is the ASIN identifier (B00005LW5U) in the case above. The last portion is your identifier that you receive when you sign up (and you can change the above link when you have one :D ). The ASIN numbers are different for each Amazon site, so to support internationally, there would need to be a cater for multiple URLs, each with a seperate ASIN number for the individual Amazon site. Naturally, if your bot is already receiving the ASIN number, then incorporating that into the template should be a simple step. --Barthax 19:37, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
- I might be missing something by your most recent comments, but surely a simple Template:Amazonuk (or however named) such as the following will garner the correct results:
[http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/{{{asin}}}/ref=nosim/<youridhere> {{{link}}}]
- That then gets used simply as {{Amazonuk|asin=B00005LW5U|link=Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec}} whereever you care to (with obvious parameter modifications). The US one would only require a change of .co.uk to .com and a different ASIN parameter when used. --Barthax 00:52, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- Cool, glad I hadn't missed something. :D --Barthax 18:30, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Amazon Implementation
- Hi Tyagi. I've set up a series of templates & modified the GameInfobox template and presented an example of using Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (PlayStation 2). The GameInfobox template now can accept a series of ASIN values through relevant asinxx parameters for UK, US, De, Fr, Jp & Ca. If you want to keep the set up, you'll need to append your associate id to the end of the relevant Amazonxx template's URLs.
- For some reason I can't get the URLs to link through images. In other Wikis I've discovered you can use [<url> <picurl>] to link a URL through a pic, but doesn't seem to work here. So I've used text instead. --Barthax 22:01, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Real life gets in the way of a lot of stuff! :D As & when, mate. --Barthax 08:53, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
MAME lists
Good idea. Have a new drive on arcade games; give people a focus on what to add. And advertise it in rllmuk's retro folder! Xevious 14:02, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Number of games
Where did you get 1500 from? Easiest way to see is to go to Special:Mostlinkedcategories and see how many are linked to 'Game' ... Xevious 10:16, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Please leave messages here regarding User:TyagiBot:
- There's a bug! Well, sort of. When creating pages, it needs to fill in the Platform field as "Sony PlayStation 2" and not "PlayStation 2" - the same for all the other categories. Xevious 10:12, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I've made a change to how my list appears. The Platform field (the second one) will now contain the name in full format - so "Nintendo Game Boy Advance" and not "GBA". The Link at the end will have the platform in short format (so "GBA"). I've manually done some of the older lists in this way to test out. Hope this is OK. Xevious 10:32, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- I've also corrected all the ones that were broken. So, let's hope it works better next time ... Xevious 11:45, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Moving the lists to the added page automatically is fine - it helps to have a list like that so I can then go through and do the multiformat stuff though. If I work out a way of automating that, I'll let you know! Xevious 20:54, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- The last run seems to have worked fine. Excellent! If I do make any changes to the template i'll let you know. Xevious 13:41, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- I've added some comments to User:Tyagi/tyagiBotStuff. Xevious 20:33, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- New lot of games to be run off. I'm working my way through the backlog, bit by bit! Xevious 16:11, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Nintendo 64 stuff added with US dates. When the US bot can run this, it'd be great! Xevious 16:39, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- Bug mentioned at Village Pub. --Barthax 09:55, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Three weeks of games to be added. Get your bot on! Also, I'll send you the Speccy file soon. Xevious 10:30, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- And a big PlayStation listing. Woo ... Xevious 16:27, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Spectrum Stuff
If you could get the Crash scores in then that would be great. Do you want me to email you the full list of Speccy games, or even the Excel sheet I've used to get the list together? Xevious 08:52, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Snackbar
Haha! I'd seen that too and was going to add it in. It would be probably worth adding in a link to each of their pages for the games we've got. One problem - most of the covers are US ones ... Xevious 09:46, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Copyright
Hey, this is quick heads up from Wikipedia:Mirrors and forks. I think this site is mostly complying with the GFDL. There's one important exception; it should have its own copy of the GFDL, just like Wikipedia. Thanks for your cooperation. Superm401 20:38, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for replying so quickly. I'm glad to see you host the GFDL. However, you should also link it from the bottom text "Content is available under GNU Free Documentation License 1.2.". Right now that links to the gnu.org version. This can be modified at MediaWiki:Copyright. See wikipedia:MediaWiki:Copyright for how Wikipedia does it. Thanks again. Tyagibot's a bit behind!
Amazon picture searches await! Xevious 13:11, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
US covers
Do bear in mind that Amazon may be to blame here - they sometimes have US covers on the EU store! Xevious 12:16, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Merger proposal
Hello. I am a member of the staff at StrategyWiki. In recent days, it has come to light just how much competition we are facing in the video-game wiki realm. Because of events such as the merger between egamia and gaming.wikia.com, and the creation of wikicheats.com by the owners of gametrailers.com (which happens to be MTV), we are now seeking to create powerful mergers with other copy-left video game wikis, and your site was at the top of our list. We would certainly like to discuss how open you are to the possibility of a merger between our sites. Please feel free to respond on my talk page on SW. Thank you very much for your time. Amazon templates
Hi Tyagi. Had a dialog with Barthax about the Amazon templates he made. I wonder if you took this any further which he thinks you might have done? You can see my questions/comments to him on his talk page and his respons on my talk page. --Kassoe 09:49, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi again Tyagi. Thanks for your response. I've installed the Perl script on my test server an I am trying to see if I figure out how it works (I'm mostly into content, I do simple HTML and can sometimes figure out a bit more if I have an examlple to modify, will be looking for help if it turns out to be too complicated for me). Let me know if you pursue this and I'll let you know if get something working. Maybe we can join efforts. There is a whole forum dedicated to the Perl script, looks like there are a whole lot of very competent people around. Right now I am trying to figure if it is a all possible to integrate the script inside MediaWiki given its limitations with regards to html-code etc. Also, I found a warning about a cache that has to be turned off in order not to create trouble with the host --Kassoe 11:34, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
I took my research a bit further. You might find this dialog of interest. A php version is available shortly - for pay --Kassoe 21:46, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
