Yes, I started work for Psygnosis in Liverpool in 1993. Now I'm back at Sony I'm back in Liverpool again. Who do you know ? Is this the correct way to chat ? Mslinklater

An acronym is an abbreviation that can be said as a word. "NTSC" can't! Xevious 16:23, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Hehe, just found the Interwiki feature: Wiktionary:Acronym. "NTSC" - I think I can manage that: it sounds a bit like a sneeze! :D --Barthax 17:03, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Contents

End-of-2005 competition

Don't forget to stick the Eo2005C banner on any page you create on which you put a reasonable amount of content!

Will do - if I get around to putting good content on! :D They're just stubs currently. Thanks for the reminder. Barthax 12:42, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

You won by a country mile. If you want to email me your address - send it to tim at economic-truth dot co dot uk - I'll get your tat in the post to you! Xevious 14:34, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Package received. Cool stuff & I'm sure my kids will enjoy, thanks. :D --Barthax 12:39, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Capitalisation

Since it's not a brand name, I think it needs to be "Audio cassette" and not "Audio Cassette". Before you do too many! Xevious 11:19, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Just noticed you've used "Audio cassette" in the infoboxes anyway. Never mind! I've changed the Media page. Xevious 11:20, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Hehe, I noticed the capitalisation on the other's & made a conscious decision to follow suit... I obviously forgot the original! --Barthax 14:26, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Disambig pages

Sorry, I even changed your user page! Feel free to change it back! Basically, say we're looking at FIFA 2003. That game appears on the series disambig page at FIFA. But it also has its own disambig page at FIFA Football 2003. So it's not a "if not", it's an "as well"! Xevious 15:44, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Cool. Thanks for the correction! :D --Barthax 21:11, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

GameSeries boxes

See Premier Manager 2000 (PlayStation) - any reason you've got the game being part of two series, one of which is the name of the game? I don't think there is but I didn't want to just delete it! Xevious 15:35, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm, maybe I read incorrectly: if you look above to your own post on the Disambig section. You mention that if a game is a part of a series it goes on the series page & if it's a multi-platform it goes on the disambig page for the game itself... So that gets two disambig pages. Now at Help:Creating_multi-format#Step_16:_Disambiguation, for a single game on multiple platforms, the game gets added to a series of the <same game on different platforms> series. So if a game is a part of a <same game on different platforms> series & a larger series, it's therefore a part of two series... However, by your comment, that's not correct, correct? :D --Barthax 17:01, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

I think we may have hit the distinction between a series disambig page and a platform disambig page? --Barthax 17:08, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Yes - there's a difference between just a 'Disambig' page and a 'SeriesDisambig'. But almost unrelated to that is the fact that the GameSeries box isn't about disambiguation, it's about a series page! Xevious 18:28, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Cool. My ambiguities resolved, thanks. --Barthax 21:46, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Alphanumeric list

Ooh, I like. We'll have to add that to all the big lists! Xevious 17:07, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Hehe, yeah I added that some time ago, but I'm surprised I missed the huge Category:Game! --Barthax 08:42, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Adsense

Thanks for the pointer, I'll take a look at it. At the momnet, I'm happy with the advert layout etc. but would be interested in some way to safely integrate something like Amazon Web Services functions. - tyagi 11:07, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm currently using Amazon Web Services via a Python library which does the XML formatting and query structure for me. This is integrated with the wiki's bot, based on the pywikipedia framework. So now, I can get a formatted list of titles from Xevious, tell the bot where to find it, it grabs the list, obtains the template from the wiki, obtains the artwork from Amazon, and spits it back up on to the site. Works well so far - just a week of testing though. What I'd like to do is to find some reasonably secure (i.e. not too user alterable) way of integrating something like a 'buy this title from Amazon' to take advantage of the associate system. Just helps to pay the hosting fees. -- tyagi 11:32, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Yep, I'm already in the associate programme. What I need to figure out is how to structure the templates and protection in order to provide associate links to the Amazon product, ideally appropriate to the each region. I'm thinking a template to put a link for the UK, and one for the US, variable related to the item ID or name. -- tyagi 22:09, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

No, you're not missing anything in my comments :) A template like the one you described is essentially what I was thinking of. I just need to get round to implementing it and testing it sometime in the near future. -- tyagi 04:23, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Amazon

Thanks for setting up the template. I've just not had time to look at this recently as we're doing some stuff in the real world which is proving really time consuming. I'll take a read over it in the near future and see how it can be merged in with the usual templates etc. -- tyagi 21:32, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi, any chance you could drop me an email at <email removed, now known>? I'd like to discuss some general stuff about GamerWiki. -- tyagi 10:00, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Help needed on a template

See Template_talk:VirtualConsole - any ideas? Xevious 10:49, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Apostrophes

[1] is a start. Generally, possesive nouns require the apostrophe, bus its is already possessive. Think of it like "his" and "hers". The same goes for "yours" and "theirs". Xevious 10:56, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Chronology

Can you have a look at Help:Chronology and see if it makes sense to you? Obviously it depends on how the namespace issue's resolved, but I thought it was worth sarting it now. Xevious 11:19, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Welcome

Thanks for the welcome. I like that gamer wiki has its own server and some of the wiki functions, but there are very few informational pages.--Cs california 03:08, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

We are developing a content wiki with game guides, soundtracks, mods, and credits at Encyclopedia gamia. I like the wiki features here! If you want to get the NES game covers I suggest here You can save all the images and upload and slowly add them in. --Cs california 07:44, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Merger proposal

Hi Barthax. I left a merger proposal on behalf of StrategyWiki over on Tyagi's talk page, but it's hard to tell if he's seen it yet. We are really anxious to talk with you about joining forces. Can you let me know if he's had a chance to review it yet (if by any chance you know). Thanks very much. Procyon 03:06, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks very much Barthax, I really appreciate it. We've been in touch with Tyagi. BTW, I am also a very big MAME fan. I wrote the majority of SW's MAME guide, and I'm also the guy who (half-heartedly) maintains the command.dat file for MAME32+ and other builds that support it. Always great to run into another MAME fan :) Procyon 02:20, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Amazon templates

Hi Barthax. After several evenings looking around I found the templates you designed for amazon links: Template:GameInfobox. I'm preparing a wiki on a whole different subject which is leadership and have been looking for something like this. I'm new to Mediawiki except for what I know from writing/editing in Wikipedia. Would you care to contact me and help me with a little further info on how you've solved the problem of making the associate codes not editable. You can find my email address on my website--Kassoe 21:19, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi again Barthax. I spent a little more time on this and now understood the use of templates and how this allows some templates with the associate code to be protected. So I now kind of get the idea how Amazon info can be integrated into MediaWiki - even though I'm generally more into content than code. It looks like you did it with simple Amazon Associate URLs (and for example the UK link in you Grand Theft showcase is broken - maybe because the method used is not dynamic?). I'd be interested in pulling more and always updated information from Amazon using their AWS (Amazon Web Services). I have my eyes on http://mrrat.com/aws/ which is a script that appears to provide a simple way to hook into the Amazon info with hourly updates. I wonder if you have an interest in working further with this? --Kassoe 08:18, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
