Earth Defence Force 2017 is a third-person shooter action game, based around the premise of an alien attack. The player must battle alien invaders through 53 levels in order to prevent Earth being taken over by giant insects and fighting machines.

Story

The year is 2017. After alien life was discovered four years previously, the Earth Defence Force was formed to provide a method of protecting humankind. The EDF has been deployed after giant UFOs appeared above cities worldwide, but initially it's unclear if these pose a threat. However, soon Earth was overrun by giant ants, dropped from the UFOs, and robotic fighting machines. It's up to the EDF to save the world.

Gameplay

Earth Defence Force 2017 is structured into 53 stages, each with a specific goal (such as to destroy all enemies, bring down the UFOs, or meet with teammates). The player controls one member of the EDF in an over-the-head view, and before each stage must choose two weapons to take into battle. These are generally very overpowered, including large rocket launchers or homing missiles, or machine guns with heavy rates of fire.
