Talk:MAME ROM

GamerWiki:To_Do_List suggests some action for this page. Beyond the linkages modified to <game> (Arcade) format, has anyone ideas on what needs performing (there so much that could be done...) in some form of priority order?

  • The To Do List is a bit out of date at the moment, as its been superseded with other methods of keeping stuff in order (see Xevious's lists). The MAME section really needs some attention, but could be an excellent resource. The list we have there at the moment is the 'good MAME ROM list', as produced at rllmukforum. These are ROMs that the readers of the forum thought were good. This is a useful list given the thousands of ROMs available for MAME. We would need to see whether the standard game templates work for MAME ROMs and then start putting together the cover art (title page art for an arcade machine I guess) and screenshots and a brief description. It needs the loving attention of an arcade game enthusiast to do it the justice it deserves. -- tyagi 19:14, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

MAME vs. Arcade

  • I'm not convinced we need seperate MAME pages for games - just whether they're emulated to be mentioned on the relevant Arcade page.Barthax 21:24, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
  • agreed. That is what I was thinking but probably didn't write it down too well. -- tyagi 23:26, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Emulator-specific items

First off, there's more than MAME out there despite MAME's obvious popularity. Having a MAME page is perfectly understandable, but I'd expect a RAINE page sometime in the future also & maybe extending beyond those two to other emulators on a non-specific page.

Possibilities include (but not limited to):

  • When it appeared in MAME.
  • When it was playable in MAME.
  • Different variations on the same game (i.e., different development versions of the same game).
  • ROM sets (information on ROMs, i.e., name & hash/CRCs) & how they've changed through MAME's development (warning: massive quantity of information in this and possibly irrelevant to this site's aim).
  • Use of third-party MAME data files: Cheats, MAME Info (again massive amounts of information) - both with obvious detail of source attributions. --Barthax 21:24, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
