Talk:Hell Rising (PC)
From GamerWiki
- There are a number of things wrong with the importation of the information.
- The first is that the game is for the Personal Computer and should have been posted to Hell Rising (PC).
- Dipgamer has correctly quoted the GamerWiki:Policy on the importation that they should not be simply copied but has failed to read on for the entirety of the policy. The information presented on the page is factual and therefore can be accepted. We would prefer the information to be embellished, but can accept the content under the licence given by Wikipedia.
- As the original source is Wikipedia, the article must be attributed as such to comply with the Wikipedia licence. To do so, simply add {{WPSource|<pagename>}} as appropriate.
- Thanks. --Barthax 14:37, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Browser Category
- Cool, sorry about that. Is there not a generic "browser game" category? You can play Hell Rising on Macs and phones and Wiis and anything, not just PCs. --Dipgamer 16:02, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- The PC category is up for a little debate in itself. We have taken on board the operating system in use (DOS, Linux, Windows, etc.) but as yet hadn't considered the abstract that is the platform indepedents like Browsers (server-side controlled) or Java. I think this is the first entry which fits this category. My bad for not spotting the uniqueness (from a GamerWiki perspective). --Barthax 09:42, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Licencing
I'm the creator of the original wiki article of Hell Rising, so I thought it would be fine to copy and paste my own work here.--Whatley2212 20:31, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Your contribution is really appreciated, Whatley2212. The interesting thing about material submitted to Wikipedia, or most other sites, is that once it's submitted, it actually becomes governed by the license used by the site in question. For example, if you write an article and submit it to a GPL site, that article is actually no longer your own personal material, is has effectively been published under the GPL documentation license. So, while you are the original creator of the material, the rights to use, alter, and distribute it, are governed by the license under which it was published. This is the reason why people sometimes ask tricky-sounding questions when material is posted from other sites. It's not the individual that's in question, it's the license that's used by the original publishing site. Interesting stuff.... -- tyagi 22:08, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm..I didn't know that. The wiki article itself is actually scheduled for deletion. So what happens then?--Whatley2212 22:53, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- It just disappears from Wikipedia (it will hang around in their history for a while before it is purged). In terms of licencing, I really don't know, however! :( I believe, if you had published the text first under your own licencing (i.e., "free") then it could be copied onto Wikipedia & GamerWiki without the complications that it appeared first at Wikipedia - but I am just speculating. --Barthax 09:42, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well thanks everyone for the help with everything, when I put this article on wikipedia the first thing I heard was "DELETE! DELETE!!!!!" Apparently 10,000 registered users isn't enough to warrant a simple wiki article.--Whatley2212 15:59, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- Could we get some player stats in the article, if you have access to them? The article sidebox currently says "Number of Players: Massively Multiplayer". --Dipgamer 10:27, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- What do you mean? It's an MMORPG so hundreds of people are playing at the same time.--Whatley2212 14:09, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- If there are 10,000 registered players, and if you can back this up, this should definitely go in the article.--Dipgamer 21:01, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- This is an interesting point about MMORPGs that perhaps we, as GamerWiki, need to think about in our templates? It would be good to know the rough number of "registered users", and some sort of statistic such as "peak number of simultaneous players". If there was any other data, such as "number of active users", that would be good too. Unfortunately, we'd be highly reliant on published figures by commercial organisations, which may not be verifiable. -- tyagi 20:41, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well, if I'm correct there are 9307 registered users right now. I figured this out because each profile is assigned a number, starting at one and adding one with each profile. By some trial and error, I found there was no profile when I went to user 9308, but there is one for user 9307.--Whatley2212 22:40, 19 August 2007 (UTC) Edit: Now its 9309 :p
- The website says "around 1,000 citizens standing right now", which I guess is more relevant than the total number of accounts created and abandoned in history. I have added this to the page.--Dipgamer 13:59, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's probably a more accurate representation.--Whatley2212 21:16, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Urban Dead?
I'm not sure if the comment comparing it to Urban Dead is needed. Although it was originally supposed to be a tribute to Urban Dead, it has a very different playing experience and pace to it with a 15ap per hour rate instead of 2ap per hour in Urban Dead. The only things they really have in common are that they are Browser Based Zombie MMORPGs.--Whatley2212 16:00, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- I think we should credit such an obvious and strong inspiration, as this has been an important school of browser games in the past couple of years. HR and UD are very similar apart from the AP and the vampires, I'd even say that HR was the most similar game to UD, of all the UD-type games out there. The AP is a great change and makes for a different gameplay experience, but the basic game structure is very similar, and is a lot more than just "browser based and has zombies", as I'm sure you know. --Dipgamer 20:59, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well, that's fine and all, I do agree that it's similarity to Urban Dead should be noted, but the way you said it I interpreted as "Urban Dead with Vampires" Which is an frequent untrue assumption of this game.--Whatley2212 22:40, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I've changed it.--Dipgamer 23:18, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks :)--Whatley2212 00:08, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
