Description
Super Monkey Ball 2 is a 3D Platform game with a twist from Sega. Following the success of Super Monkey Ball (GameCube), Amusement Vision's sequel was highly anticipated and immediately hit the top spot in the GameCube charts upon release.
Story
Aiai, Meemee, Baby and Gongon have realised that there are no bananas left in their village; they've been stolen by Dr Bad-Boon and distributed all over platforms levitating in the sky. The motive for this is unclear, but the four monkeys have to collect as many bananas as possible while reaching the end point of each level in sufficient time.
Gameplay
While many compare Super Monkey Ball to Marble Madness, there are very large differences between the two games. The main difference, and a concept difficult to understand without playing the game, is that in Super Monkey Ball you control the platforms on which the ball rests, and not the ball itself. Tipping the platforms forwards will mean the ball gathers momentum in that direction, and it will be necesary to tip the platform backwards to slow the ball down.
Difficulty levels
The game is split into two modes, both of which use the same levels.
- Story mode presents ten levels at a time to complete, in any order.
- Normal mode presents a fixed series of levels, divided into Beginner, Advanced, Expert and Master difficulty levels.
Party games
Super Monkey Ball 2's party games expand on those included in the original game, and double the number available. The minigames in Super Monkey Ball 2 are:
- Monkey Race 2: Race against opponents to the finish line (new courses and weapons)
- Monkey Fight 2: Try and knock everyone out of the ring (new arenas and weapons)
- Monkey Target 2: Collect bonuses and land on a target to get a high score (simultaneously)
- Monkey Billiards 2: A standard game of billiards (with more options)
- Monkey Bowling 2: Throw the monkey down the lne to knock over skittles (also with 'crazy' courses)
- Monkey Golf 2: A standard golf course
- Monkey Dogfight: Fly your monkey around and shoot others out of the air
- Monkey Shot: Effectively a lightgun game, without the lightgun
- Monkey Tennis: A basic tennis game with three shot strengths
- Monkey Boat: Row and steer your boat using the pad triggers in a race to the finish
- Monkey Soccer: A very basic football game
- Monkey Baseball: Hit the ball into certain zones to score points
