Description
Super Monkey Ball is a 3D Platform game with a twist from Sega. A launch title for the Nintendo GameCube, it was one of the first major console games from Sega that was not a direct port of a Dreamcast game. However, Super Monkey Ball was originally planned for a Dreamcast release, and programming had started on the game.
The main game is a conversion of Super Monkey Ball (Arcade).
Story
Aiai, Meemee, Baby and Gongon were eating bananas, when suddenly the ground opened up before them and four balls jumped out. As soon as the monkeys placed their feet into the balls, the balls closed around them and flew the monkeys up into the sky.
Gameplay
While many compare Super Monkey Ball to Marble Madness, there are very large differences between the two games. The main difference, and a concept difficult to understand without playing the game, is that in Super Monkey Ball you control the platforms on which the ball rests, and not the ball itself. Tipping the platforms forwards will mean the ball gathers momentum in that direction, and it will be necessary to tip the platform backwards to slow the ball down.
Difficulty levels
The game is split into four modes, which each presents a fixed series of levels. Beginner, Advanced and Expert modes are available at the start, and Master mode must be unlocked.
Party games
Super Monkey Ball is known as much for its minigames as for the main single-player game. The minigames in Super Monkey Ball are:
- Monkey Race: Race against opponents to the finish line
- Monkey Fight: Try and knock everyone out of the ring
- Monkey Target: Land on a target to get a high score (one at a time)
- Monkey Billiards: A standard game of pool or billiards
- Monkey Bowling: Throw the monkey down the lane to knock over skittles
- Monkey Golf: A crazy golf course
