Super Mario 64 DS is a remake of the classic Nintendo 64 game, Super Mario 64, which was published by Nintendo in 1996. There are many differences between the original and the new Nintendo DS version. For instance you won't start your adventure with Mario this time, you'll start with Yoshi instead. Mario and his friends have been captured, and now it's up yoshi to rescue them.

Gameplay

The player controls Mario and other on-screen characters using either the touch-screen or the D-pad. The control method is configurable, and players have found options to be a matter of personal preference with no real rules as to which may be best. Those fans of the Nintendo DS touch-screen generally prefer to use the thumb strap or stylus to control the on-screen character. This method gives the impression of an analogue control system, with a variable radius from the player's initial touch being used to apply more or less speed in the chosen direction. Other players prefer to use the digital input of the D-pad. Some players have commented that the analogue stick input of the Nintendo 64 version was better than the touch-screen, but this is a matter of heated debate.

Using the chosen control method, the player's on-screen character is guided around the 3D environment, performing a wide range of actions. Shoulder buttons and standard buttons are combined to achieve special jumps and attacks against foes. Once familiar with the control system, the player is able to perform fluid and complex movements in-game.
