Description of Hardware
The Sega Multimega was the only first-party Sega Mega Drive/Sega Mega CD all-in-one unit. It was designed to be slim and compact, and could be used as a portable CD player. In the United States, the unit was known as the Sega CD-X. It's widely considered to be a failure due to its high launch price (£350), and the lack of market.
It also lacked proper support for the Sega 32X - indeed, it's manual explicitly states it should not be used in conjunction with it due to the lack of shielding so CD-X/Multimega use with the 32X unit could not pass FCC regulations.
It should not be confused with the third party Victor Wondermega/JVC X'Eye, which both have similar features but were made by 3rd party companies.
