Modchip
From GamerWiki
A modchip is a small piece of electronics that allows systems to run unlicensed software (whether homebrew or pirates of commercial games) and/or to run imported games.
The first popular modchips were for the Sony PlayStation, where the term comes from as a chip needed to be soldered in to play games on CD-R, however it is now a general term despite the fact they are often more complex than their name implies. Many earlier systems were modified by hobbyists but few had a single-chip modification.
List of systems with modchips avaliable:
- Sega Saturn
- Sega Dreamcast - Allowed imports only
- Sony PlayStation
- Sony PlayStation 2
- Nintendo GameCube
- Microsoft Xbox
