The first game in the Gran Turismo series, Gran Turismo was at the time considered a revolutionary racing game as it possessed the most realistic graphics and car physics on a driving simulation at the time. With a selection of nearly 300 cars and 11 tracks and each track being also available in reverse, the game really pushed the boundries of PS1 gaming and gaming technology. Gran Turismo was the first game to be played with the analogue (Dualshock) controller using both the vibration and analogue control functions. The game was one of the Playstation's best sellers and was later released on the platinum series. The game's success encouraged Polyphony to make many sequels.

Story
The main idea of the game is to start off with a budget of 10,000 credits and to buy a car and this would involve scouring the used cars and finding a perfect car, usually a cheap small hatchback or coupe. Then with the car you would win races to win prize money to buy or tune cars with your ever expanding garage. Slowly the races would get harder offering better cars and more money as prizes. Licence tests were designed to improve the players skill and show different racing methods. The higher the licence you obtained the more races you could enter.
Gameplay
The game was considered revolutionary at the time for its amazing graphics and realistic handling and physics and the way the game had been unimagineable a year before release.
