Genre refers to the type of game. GamerWiki puts each genre in to its own Category. A complete list of GamerWiki Categories can be found. The following genre categories are available:

- Adventure games

- First-Person Adventure
- Graphical Adventure (as in, point-and-click)
- Text Adventure
- Platform games
- Racing games
- Flying games
- Rhythm Action
- Puzzle
- Strategy games
- Role Playing Game
- Shooting games
- Fighting games
- Sports
- Compilation
- Miscellaneous
Note: One and only one of these categories must be entered within the GameInfoBox for every game entered on GamerWiki, with capital lettering and spacing identical. Only those categories shown as a link are valid. Use of the Miscellaneous category should be avoided if possible.
