Description
Released by Nintendo in 1998, the Game Boy Camera allows people to take small, grainy greyscale photographs and then modify them, use them in simple games, share them using the Game Boy Link or print them out as stickers with the aid of the Game Boy Printer.
Gameplay
Aside from the myriad of photography-related toys, tools, secrets and bizarre imagery, four simple games can be played. A simple vertical shoot 'em up, Space Fever II, also acts as a hub; shoot one of the three alien ships at the beginning to access Ball, D.J. and Run! Run! Run!. The player can take several photos of his or her face, and this "Game Face" features, sometimes optionally, in all four games.
Staff
"Design" : Hirokazu Tanaka (also Game Boy Printer)[1]
The game has a credits sequence, but this seems to consist entirely of a man dancing.
Trivia
- Uses a Mitsubishi M64282FP light-sensitive chip.
- As the Game Boy Pocket hardware had recently been issued in several new colours, the Game Boy Camera cartridge could be bought in red, green, yellow or blue.
- The camera is compatible with all current Game Boy systems, though using it with an SP, Super Game Boy or Game Boy Player will be awkward at best...
- A linker cable was released by Mad Catz Inc. which allowed the user to "print" their saved images from the Gameboy to a BMP file on their PC.
- The camera is sensitive to infra-red light, easily tested by aiming the lens at a functioning TV remote control's LED.
