Description
Donkey Konga is a Nintendo GameCube rhythm game starring the gorilla Donkey Kong, developed by Namco and published by Nintendo. It is intended to be played with a special controller (tarukonga) resembling two small bongo drums, although standard GameCube controllers can be used.
Donkey Konga was developed by the same team of people who made the popular PlayStation 2 series Taiko Drum Master, aka Taiko No Tatsujin. Gameplay and screen layout are very similar.
Gameplay
Donkey Konga is a rhythm game where you use a special input device called Kongas, an electronic bongo drum. You play the game by reading a total of four drum commands (left drum, right drum, both drums, clap) from a scrolling sheet of music, and hitting accordingly. When you play, you play over a existing composition of music. When you try to hit a note, you are judged by four grades; Miss, Bad, O.K and Great. If you hit without getting a bad, or miss, you build up combos. The point of the game is to get most points possible, and as few bad and misses as possible. There are three levels of difficulty, Monkey, Chimp and Gorilla, the latter being the most difficult.
Story
One day, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong discover a pair of odd barrels on a deserted beach. After showing the barrels to Cranky Kong, they learn the barrels are really a legendary musical instrument that plays music not only when you drum on it, but also when you clap. Donkey Kong christens the instrument the DK Bongo, and he and Diddy decide that they will become famous musicians, get rich and buy all the bananas they could ever want.
Characters
Donkey Kong holds centre stage, and he's joined by his little pal Diddy Kong. Also making appearances are Cranky Kong and King K. Rool.
