DVD is a type of optical media. The term DVD is short for Digital Versitile Disc or Digital Video Disc. DVDs come in a number of formats with the most common being DVD-ROM. The ROM portion means Read Only Memory. For the DVD-ROM format, upto 4.7 Gigabytes can be stored on a single sided disc, over 5 times the capacity of a CD-ROM, or 8.5 Gigabyte on a dual layer disc. The standard was originally created by the DVD Forum.
