Alternative Title

When games are released across different regions, they sometimes get vastly different titles. For instance, the DS game Feel the Magic: XY/XX was retitled Kimi no Tame Nara Shineru (translating to 'I Would Die For You') in Japan, while the 2005 European release was titled Project Rub.

Most of the time, the adoption of an alternative title is inspired by marketing considerations; sometimes, however, it is made inevitable due to copyright or trademark issues. As an example, since there was already a game called Starfox on the 8-bit computers in the UK, Nintendo released its SNES shooter as Starwing.

In the majority of cases, game titles are not translated across languages (with the exception of Japanese). Sometimes, only part of the title is translated; for example, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was released in France as Paper Mario: La Porte Millénaire.
